The wedding was incredibly picture perfect. There really was no other way to describe it. It was more beautiful than any Hollywood movie or magazine photo shoot I've ever seen. I said so many times during the evening, Can you believe that we're HERE? And it's not really some fake movie?

OK, so this is the first blog I have ever tried to make a comment on and I can not get it to open a window at the right point, where my incredible daughter says:

"My dad gave a little speech last night that had us ALL crying. ...he was a sentimental blubbering father. It was a glorious thing."

OK, maybe my eyelids needed a bit of lubrication....maybe there were a couple of pauses for dramatic effect..... But, then I defy ANY father to read the following with out just a touch of emotion.

From a 3-4 page letter for a school time capsule project from which a small portion was used in the context of "warning" Chris what he was getting on a "no warranty-no return" basis. The letter began with:

"10 April, 1990
2:30 AM
You asked me for a letter the day after it was due. You expected that I could just quickly dash off a letter to my daughter.

You of course are asleep, blissfully confident that all things will work out just fine for you, including getting a letter out of your father at the last moment--no past the last moment(!), because they always have. Yes, you are a "sanguine" personality. Your confidence, enthusiasm, energy and "sparkle" energize all those around you, even your poor tired old father. The sheer force of your personality will get you through a lot of tight spots, enlist the support of others in your causes, and, used wisely, assist you to accomplish much in your future."

The extracts ended with this:

"You are my sweetheart, now and always. Your daddy (and your mommy) will ALWAYS love you. There is nothing, absolutely NOTHING that you can ever do that will cause me to love you any less than fully. There are many things you could do (and do!!) that might anger me, frustrate me, disappoint me, and drive me up a wall, but there is nothing you can do to make me stop loving my daughter."

I am fully confident that Chris has and will continue exceed the expectations of a young woman who has been loved like that by her father. Wenche and I are pleased to welcome him as our second son.

OK, so maybe I cried...a little.

We are sooooo happy for you, now with a man truly worthy of my daughter.

Daddy
